Curaçao is an easy island for a trip as a couple. It is small enough to see properly in a week, the weather is reliable, and it is far enough outside the hurricane belt that most of the year is safe to plan around. What it does not have much of is the resort formula: entertainment, music by the pool, a crowd.
This article is about the other kind of holiday — the quiet one. Where to stay, what to do with the two of you, when to go, and what we can arrange so you have to think about as little as possible.
The short answer
Stay small and adults-only, base yourself on the southeast side near Jan Thiel, and give yourself a car for two or three days rather than the whole week.
Why adults only makes a difference
Adults only means, simply, that no children stay here. In practice you notice it most around the pool: no entertainment programme, no music, and no one bombing into the water while you are reading.
It also changes the scale of things. A small bed & breakfast with a handful of rooms is a different holiday from a resort with several hundred: you tend to meet the same faces at breakfast, and the people who run it know your name by the second morning. The best moments for two
- A snorkel morning at the Tugboat — shallow, clear and quiet before the boats arrive.
- A sunset cruise — the easiest way to end a day on the water, and the light along the coast is worth it.
- Dinner in Pietermaai — restored townhouses, small kitchens and live music at the weekend.
- A day in the west — Grote Knip, Cas Abao and Playa Lagun, with a stop for fresh fish.
- A private chef at your table — for guests in the villas and apartments we manage.
- Doing nothing at all — the pool, the garden and a book. It is a legitimate plan.
When is the best time to go?
December to April is high season: driest, busiest and most expensive. May, June and September are the quiet months — the same weather, fewer people, lower rates. October and November see more rain, usually in short bursts rather than whole days.
Curaçao sits below the main hurricane belt, which is why the island stays bookable in a season that disrupts much of the Caribbean. It is worth knowing when you are comparing islands.

Most of the things that make a trip like this run smoothly are small and easy to forget. We sort them out over WhatsApp before you arrive, so you are not organising anything once you are here.
