We run a small bed & breakfast, so you might expect us to tell you a B&B is always the better choice. It is not. Resorts do some things genuinely better than we ever could — and depending on the holiday you want, a resort may simply suit you more. Here is an honest comparison to help you choose.
What a resort does better
A resort has everything in one place: several restaurants and bars, big pools, a spa, a gym, often a private beach, and staff around the clock. If you arrive with children, kids clubs and family pools are a real advantage. With an all-inclusive package you never have to think about money during the day, and you can spend an entire week without leaving the property. If that is exactly the holiday you are after — sunbed, swim-up bar, buffet, repeat — a resort will make you happier than we will, and Curaçao has several good ones.
What a small B&B does better
A small guesthouse wins on the things that do not fit on a facilities list. Your hosts know your name from day one. Breakfast is made for you, not kept warm for three hundred guests. When you ask where to eat, you get the restaurant where we actually eat ourselves — not the place with a commission deal. It is quiet: no animation team, no music at the pool, no queue for towels. And because a B&B is small, it sits in a real neighbourhood; you experience the island instead of a compound.
